Online Apple store in India
For the first time in more than 20 years since Apple launched its operations in India, the iPhone maker has begun selling its products directly to consumers in the world’s second-largest smartphone market.
Apple store in India launched on Wednesday, offering almost the entire range of products, as well as a wide range of services to customers across the country for the first time. India is the 38th market where Apple has launched its online store.
Consumers in India can now purchase Applecare +, which extends the warranty on products, and access the trade-in program to get discounts on new hardware purchases. The company said it would support customers via chat or telephone. and that customers should consult their team of experts before making a purchase.
The company allows customers to order customized versions of iMac, MacBook Air, Mac Mini, and other Mac computers – launched offline only by its authorized partners in late May in India.
The company also offers customers the ability to pay for their purchases in monthly installments. It was reported in January that the company plans to open its online apple store in India in the quarter ending September. The company plans to open its first physical retail store in the country next year.
Jayant Kolla, the chief analyst at Convergence Catalyst, a consultancy firm, argues that opening the Apple store in India is a bigger deal for the company than consumers in the country.
The Apple usually starts investing in marketing, marketing, brand building and other investments.
Apple oversees billboards and advertising of iPhones and other products on display in India, but it is run by third-party partners, Kolla said. “Apple can provide some marketing dollars, but those efforts are always driven by their partners,” he said.
In recent years, Apple has shown more interest in India, one of the fastest-growing smartphone markets in the world. The company’s contract manufacturers today assemble the latest generation of iPhone models and some accessories locally – an effort that kickstarted two years ago.

Starting price of the iPhone 11 Pro Max is $1,487 in India, compared to $1,099 in the US (it has recently started assembling some iPhone 11 models in India). The AirPods Pro, which sells at $249 in the US, is available at $ 341 in India.
The company Apple has also been trying to open its store in India for some years, but local regulations have made it difficult for the company to expand in the country. But in recent quarters, India has relaxed many of its terms.
Last year, New Delhi relaxed the sourcing rules for single-brand retailers, paving the way for companies like Apple to open online stores before establishing a presence in the brick and mortar market.
This year, India has launched a $ 6.6 billion incentive program aimed at boosting local smartphone manufacturing. South Korean giant Samsung and Apple’s contract manufacturing partners Foxconn, Wistron and Pegatron, among others, have applied for the promotion.
“Unlike most foreign companies that offer their products and services for free in India or around the world at some of the cheapest prices, Apple is completely focused on a small segment of the population who can afford large sums,” Kolla said. Not that Apple has not made some changes in its pricing strategy for India. The monthly cost of Apple Music is $1.35 in India, compared to $9.99 in the US, while its Apple One bundle of Apple Music, TV +, Arcade and iCloud costs $2.65 per month in India.
While some Apple customers prefer the ecosystem of the iPhone maker’s products over the Android manufacturer’s offerings. They want Apple to make its services more accessible in the country. A wide range of Apple services, including Apple News and Apple Pay, are still unavailable in India.
A few weeks before the launch of Apple’s online store in India, the company will unveil a new generation of iPhone models, and a month before Diwali, hundreds of millions of Indians will be spending heavily.
